Thursday Travel: Off the tourist track

London

221B Baker St.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this week reminded me of my first (and only) trip to England last summer. It was a fantastic week: filled with of cups of tea, visiting my favorite literary landmarks, and enjoying iconic London. If anyone is planning a visit to London, I highly recommend the Imperial War Museum and the city Bus Tour. Pure touristy fun.

… Like windmills in people’s backyards…

The real treat though, was getting off the touristy track and spending a few afternoons wandering on foot through non-destination towns. And so, my travel tip for this week is: branch out! Though the beaten path is comfortable, if you wander off it just a little, you never know what you might find…

… or a real secret garden.
