Monday Media: The Perspective of Other Presses

Reading the Irish Times in a café Galway

I am still in Ireland (though I’ll be home sooner than I would like), and one thing that I’ve been doing is listening to and reading the Irish news. Which brings me to my post for today… it is fascinating to read about yourself in the “international” section of someone else’s newspaper. Of course the Irish press has it’s blind-spots and prejudices, but they’re different than those of our press and thus can sometimes lead to a different take on a familiar issue.

So my Monday Media tip for this week is: for any given issue that interests you, take a tour of other nation’s presses… you never know what you might learn about yourself from how other people see you!
